The Carousel of Time (Thoughts for the new year)

Twenty thirteen was a mix of exciting moments, unsettling events, and hopeful plantings. My mailing list grew.  Songs from Here Right Now were played on the radio. Attendance at shows blossomed. Painting With Words was born.  I made treasured new friends, and sadly lost a few.  I also lost my day-job, gained a nephew, and studied with a hero.

It has been exciting and terrifying!  At times, I haven’t known where to put my next foot down! Gratefully, along the way, I have seen signs that I am on the right path. I may lose my way now and then, but I always seem to find the way back.

I have been thinking about what I hope to say as twenty fourteen comes to a close. I have been thinking big!  I've learned that life is too short to think small.

One of my intentions for the year is to become a better songwriter.  Songwriting is my passion, my pleasure, and the heart of this musical life I am creating.  This year, I plan to write my best songs yet!

I feel like a parent sometimes.  My songs are my kids, and I want them to have fabulous friends, and venture to places I have never been. I want them to fly from the nest and have big lives.

I also plan to go back into the studio to work on my next album.  The studio feels like home to me.  It feels like the kitchen of my life.  It is a place where magic happens.  I can’t wait.

What are your intentions for the year?  What do you hope to create?

(If you leave a comment, please check back.  I always post a response.)

wow. thank you. once again you have inspired me. i realize i do have any intentions. i am just living; not really having a goal. my actions indicate my intentions last year were to avoid stress. change my life so it is dominated by unstressful situations, people, places, events, media input, etc. and my intentions with health have been met with great food, gym visits 4 or 5 times a week, meditating, yoga, reading more spiritual literature, and playing music. Now could be a time to think of intentions. i just added that to my list of things to do. there's my first intention. no more lists of things to do...stress. or, if i make a list, fill it with things i Want to do, not Have to do. thanks for inspiring with your music, your drive forward, your perserverance, your writings, and with your kind words.

Sounds like you had good intentions last year Harry. You listed a lot of accomplishments that were healthy and nurturing. I wish you lots of things on that "want to do" list of yours, and a year of enjoying doing them. Thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot to me. All the best in 2014!
