Sending the funk packing!

Have you ever avoided things that you knew would be good for you? Has that ever lead to the kind of funk that shows up with luggage? For me, the answer is yes, and yes...

This has been a week of taking action. It has been a week of doing little things that ended up being big things. It feels good! The funk is packing her bags!

I have been watching some of my songwriting peers post video after video of their songs. I saw that these videos were turning me into a fan. Many of them were raw and spontaneous, and I loved them, but the thought of doing the same was terrifying.

This week, I made a quick, live, first-take video of me singing and playing a song I wrote this summer called Old Love, and I posted it on Facebook. It now lives here on my website and on my YouTube channel. Making it, glasses and all, was significant for me, and I will make more.

I also went running! Actually, I walked and caught my breath more than I ran, but I was out there in the gentle autumn rain, sneakers on, and moving. I looked ridiculous, and I felt proud of myself. Today I am in pain, but I intend to keep it up.

I am a work in progress...

What are you avoiding?

You're jogging?!!! My doodle drawing, songwriting, blog producing, world helping, earthy crunching, cat loving, hippie naturalist is out running? Awesome. Have you felt the post aerobic effects a half hour or so when you get back? I experience pain, exhaustion, then new energy if and when i manage to get out there and do some heart pumping exercise. way to go D. may i suggest some obvious clothing or reflectors on your shoes and jacket. What i hear and read is drivers often dont see joggers. Especially in a quiet neighborhood where it appears to be safe to text behind the wheel cuz there's no one around. . . i'm proud of you for not "avoiding". Have you ever avoided things that you knew would be good for you? My brain has an army of excuses. "it's too hard. i dont have the time. i'll do it later. once i get this done then i can..." But in all fairness to myself, lately, i have been avoiding the nitpicky chores that get in the way of me doing what i Really want to do. like you, music and other creative adventures are my real passion. i am soo interested in life's offerings i get overwhelmed with the choices i have to occupy myself. In my next life, i want to live on a planet that has a 36 hour day. Then i can have coffee with each of my friends, go jogging, paint, draw, write tunes (with a friend), play open mics, practice, meditate, yoga, bike, take photos, breath in the ocean, sit in the woods and listen to the rain, ... then go to work, come home and watch every Ted talk i want to see. Maybe i dont have to wait until another life??

i love your 'Old Love' tune. i would like to learn it and play it at open mics up here. the sentiment, the melody the imagery all resonate with me. i like it alot. if you dont mind me playing it could you let me know the chord changes and lyrics? i think i could figure out where they go from repeated listenings. if you're ok with that. You mentioned it's a new tune so maybe you would prefer to wait on all that.

Hi Harry! I got back a bit ago from my second day of run-jogging, walking, huffing-puffing. It is both exhausting and exhilarating. Mostly, I feel proud of myself for showing up. You are right about the energy boost a bit after. I will pay attention to that. This is all so new. A friend who is encouraging me, and who runs marathons, told me to just think about the next time. I am going to take that to heart. This is a big change for me. I am not an exercise girl. You are right, you don't have to wait until another life! You do lots of things too my friend. I do know the army of excuses. I need to change some things, and I am doing my best. I always love your thoughtful comments. Thank you...
