Little Joys!

I love corny, small town, Christmas movies! They bring on that old feet-pajama feeling. Love always wins, as if the universe wouldn’t have it any other way. There is often magic involved, and gingerbread smells, and snow.  The ending is clear five minutes in, but I enjoy the unfolding.

Real life is messy and unpredictable. It is filled with dreams, joys, dramas and disappointments, but unlike those movies, the outcome is rarely clear. I have learned that the good things can win the day, if they get enough attention. That is the power of gratitude.

Here are some of today’s little joys:

The soft furry feeling of the inside of a chestnut shell

The surprise tickle of my friend’s dog sniffing my face

The cushy feel of my running shoes

Realizing that I still have two containers of the soup I made a couple of weeks ago in the freezer. It is SO good!

The smell of pumpkin soap in the shower

The possibility of a new house concert booking

The sun through blue glass

My cats’ enjoyment of their new piece of cat furniture

And of course, sappy, happy ending movies!

What are some of your little joys?

Hey Denise, well some of my immediate every day joys have to do with certain smells. I love the soothing smell of warm shower water, I love opening my bedroom window and having the beautiful smell of fresh air flow in, I also find it so relaxing making a cup of my favorite teas and inhaling the scent right when I take it of the microwave. -Bryan

Hey Brian, I love the fresh air through the window smell too... Thanks for posting. Sometimes it is the little things that are the big things.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh! i am working daily on recognizing each little noticed moment as a gift of either joy or opportunity or both. all are life and i remain grateful for my life. there was a time, fortunately for me, when my having a life was precarious at best. Now that i am firmly back on my feet, sometimes, i have a much deeper appreciation for those "little joys". This morning's joys? i woke up. Birds nurtured from the cherry tree outside my frozen window. My cell phone minutes ran out, granting me time alone. A friend called to meet for coffee. my car started so i could drive it to the mechanic to have it fixed. while i was typing the mechanic called to say the car was done. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!! another grateful day on the planet. Thanks D for triggering another contemplative day. oh yeah, one more. I PAID MY RENT
